Afiara String Quartet

Tue. 6/8/10 at 7:30pm Afiara String Quartet has been named The Juilliard School’s new Graduate Resident String Quartet. As recipients of Lisa Arnhold Fellowships, the Afiara String Quartet is presented in a full Lincoln Center recital during the season. They assist the JSQ with their ensemble and chamber music instruction, as well as the School’s first-year string quartet survey course.
Gryphon Piano Trio

Fri. 11/12/10 at 7:30pm Formed in 1993, the Gryphon Trio continues to delight audiences around the globe with their highly refined and dynamic performances. Based in Toronto, the Trio tours regularly throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. Their celebrated recordings include works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Lalo and Shostakovich. With a strong commitment to expanding the piano trio repertoire, the Trio has commissioned and premiered over 50 works.
Escher String Quartet

The Escher String Quartet has received acclaim for its individual sound, inspired artistic decisions and unique cohesiveness. The Quartet has performed at prestigious venues and festivals across the United States including Lincoln Center, the 92nd Street Y and Symphony Space in New York, Boston's Gardner Musuem, the Ravinia and Caramoor Festivals, Music@Menlo and La Jolla SummerFest; and has collaborated with eminent artists such as Lawrence Dutton, Leon Fleisher, Lynn Harrell, Jeffrey Kahane, Joseph Kalichstein, David Shifrin and Pinchas Zukerman. Within months of its inception in 2005, the Escher was invited by both Pinchas Zukerman and Itzhak Perlman to be the quartet-in-residence at each artist's summer festival: The Young Artists Programme at Canada's National Arts Centre and The Perlman Chamber Music Program on Shelter Island, NY.
Spanish Brass

Fri, 01/21/11 at 7:30pm In 1989 five Spanish musicianscreated an eclectic and innovative project that they have been developing over the years in different fields: music performance, education and creation. Today they tour all over the world, with courses intended for chamber music and recordings. Their repertoire is one of the most painstaking thought-out aspects of their performances, along with their staging.
Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Ensemble

Fri. 02/11/11 at 7:30pm Sir Neville Marriner says that the small ensemble he founded in 1958 ‘had no intention of giving any concerts or continuing forever’. Happily, whatever the initial intention, 50 years on the Academy is firmly established as one of the world’s leading chamber orchestras and, according to The Times journalist Richard Morrison, ‘As you travel round the globe, the Academy’s name has an aura possessed by no other British orchestra’. This is an ensemble of 8 chamber musicians selected from the orchestra.
St. Petersburg Quartet with Irina Morozova, piano

Fri. 03/18/11 at 7:30pm One of the world's leading string quartet, the St. Petersburg was founded in 1985 as the Leningrad Quartet by Alla Aranovskaya, Alla Krolevich (Goryainova) and Leonid Shukayev, all three graduates of the Leningrad Conservatory. The Quartet blazed a trail through international chamber music competitions, winning First Prize at the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition, the Silver Medal and a Special Prize at the Tokyo International Competition of Chamber Ensembles, First Prize and both Special Prizes at the Vittorio Gui International Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Florence, Italy, and First Prize and the "Grand Prix Musica Viva" at the International Competition for Chamber Ensembles in Melbourne, Australia. Irina Morozova joins them to form a piano quintet.
