Workshops

Each year, the MCMS sponsors a workshop to benefit the community, using one of the season's internationally known chamber music groups to offer an educational workshop for music students. For example, in 2003 the Wihan String Quartet conducted a workshop with the members of the Brevard Youth Orchestra.

It is impressive to witness the improvement obtained in so short a time during one of these educational outreach workshops. The young people have almost always expressed great enthusiasm for the expert coaching they received.

The Melbourne Chamber Music Society is proud to sponsor these events in our local community.

11/10/06	Kuss Quartet - Satellite High School About 40 students from Mel Hi attended this workshop. They played a movement from Beethoven and a movement from Haydn followed by the Shostakovich from the previous evening in it’s entirety. Then they demonstrated a number of techniques used on string instruments to produce various types of noise. Some of these techniques are used by modern composers. They then held a question and answer session with the students for about 20 minutes
10/27/06	Vienna Piano Trio - Melbourne High School Approximately 140 Satellite High School orchestra members were treated to a master-class by the Vienna Piano Trio. The Trio explained and demonstrated differences in music from the time of Haydn through the time of Schubert and engaged the students in lively discussion.
01/20/06	American Chamber Players - Eau Gallie High The American Chamber Players held a master class for the Flute Band held in the Eau Gallie band room.

1/25/03	Wihan String Quartet -Trinity Presbyterian Members of the Brevard Youth Orchestra had formed a quartet. They were coached by the Wihan both on an individual basis and as the students and coaches played together.
